Archaeologists have found something 200 meters underground in Valencia: a Roman temple for women

Archaeologists from the University of Alicante and the University of Zaragoza uncovered at least 120 Latin inscriptions in Cova Dones, a cave in Millares, Valencia.

The inscriptions, mostly from the 1st and 2nd centuries CE, are far more numerous than the roughly 15 previously known.

Several texts mention female names and votive dedications to a goddess called Domina, with some references to the mysterious epithet Malaci.

The discovery shows Cova Dones was a major Roman sanctuary and may have involved women more actively than previously thought.
