ChatGPT and Roblox near EU designation as 'very large platforms'…to face the highest level of regulation

The European Commission is moving to designate ChatGPT and Roblox as very large online platforms (VLOPs).

Both services are said to meet the 45 million monthly active user threshold, with a decision possible as early as August.

If confirmed, they would face duties on harmful content moderation, risk assessments, and transparency reporting.

They could also owe annual fees and face fines of up to 6% of global revenue for violations.

The move would extend the EU’s Digital Services Act oversight further into generative AI and gaming platforms.
