The Moon Astronauts Brought Along USB Stick-Sized Living Samples of Their Own Tissue

NASA's Artemis II crew carried organ chips grown from each astronaut's cells on their 10-day trip around the Moon.

The chips were produced from bone marrow cells because those cells are sensitive to radiation.

Duplicate chips were also sent to the ISS to compare deep-space and low Earth orbit radiation effects.

The chips are about USB stick size and enable side-by-side comparison between crew biology and matched micro-organs.
