Curbing scalpers and card resellers: Japan’s official Pokémon card store introduces facial recognition system - IT之家

The Pokémon Company has introduced facial recognition at five official card shops in Japan to curb scalping.

Adult customers and children above elementary-school age must agree to the rules and can enter only once per day.

The system flags staff if someone tries to re-enter, helping block repeat same-day visits and bulk buying.

The policy is now in place at stores in Miyagi, Tokyo, Aichi, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.
