Google is fixing one of Android’s most annoying calling problems

Google is rolling out Jetpack Telecom v1.1.0 to make third-party VoIP calls appear and behave more like regular calls in the Android Phone app.

The first rollout starts with Google Meet, with broader support planned for apps like WhatsApp and Telegram on Android 16.1+ devices.

This should improve call history, native callback access, and overall consistency across the Phone app.

The update closes a long-standing Android gap and brings the experience closer to iPhone’s CallKit model.
