User-Replaceable Batteries May Be Making a Comeback - PC Perspective

The EU has approved a law that will require certain consumer devices to use owner-replaceable batteries starting February 18, 2027.

Covered products include headphones, e-readers, handheld consoles, and laptops, with earbuds possibly included.

Smartphones and tablets are exempt, along with some wearable IoT devices.

The rule is aimed at making electronics easier to repair and extending product lifespans, and it could influence global device design.
