Mexico has activated the 40-hour workweek: the countdown begins for companies to cut working hours

Mexico has begun a gradual labor reform to cut the standard workweek from 48 hours to 40 by 2030.

The legal weekly cap will drop to 46 hours in 2027, with further step-downs planned through 2030.

Employers must adapt schedules and implement electronic time tracking, while keeping wages unchanged.

Companies that fail to comply could face fines, as the country moves away from one of the OECD’s longest workweeks.
