Hackers are trying to steal Signal users’ backups in new wave of widespread attacks

Attackers are impersonating Signal support in a phishing wave aimed at stealing users’ backup recovery keys.

The scam claims there is a sync problem and warns that chats could be lost unless users share the key.

Messages have reportedly reached anti-CCP activists and others, suggesting the campaign is broader than one group.

Signal says it will never contact users first or ask for a registration code, PIN, or recovery key.
