Meta AI will analyze teen users’ faces, but it’s not face recognition

Meta says it will use AI to analyze photos and videos on Facebook and Instagram to estimate users’ ages and flag under-13 accounts.

The company says the system is for age cues, not facial recognition, and will help deliver age-appropriate experiences for teens.

Meta is also expanding beyond profile-based signals and pushing lawmakers to make app stores responsible for age checks.

The shift reflects growing pressure from regulators on youth safety, while raising privacy and accuracy concerns about automated image analysis.
