China’s new lithium battery reaches 451 Wh/kg with 3-minute charging and 700 cycles

Researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences reported a solid-state lithium-metal battery using a PVDF-based electrolyte strategy.

The cell reached 451.5 Wh/kg, charged in about 3 minutes, and kept stable performance for more than 700 cycles.

A pouch-cell version also passed a nail-penetration test, highlighting promising safety under abuse conditions.

The advance could offer a practical route to faster-charging, higher-energy batteries for electric vehicles and commercialization.
