Modder creates a fully working 16GB RTX 3070 using VRAM from a dead AMD GPU

A modder turned a broken RTX 3070 into a working 16GB card by harvesting GDDR6 from a dead RX 6900 XT and reworking the PCB.

The project used memory strap changes and a BIOS/power-state workaround to keep the card stable in both 8GB and 16GB modes.

In VRAM-heavy games, the 16GB configuration performed far better, showing that the RTX 3070’s 8GB limit can be a major bottleneck.

The results suggest extra VRAM can materially improve modern gaming performance, especially at high settings and 4K.
