EU pushes to tighten cloud procurement standards...possible exclusion of U.S. cloud providers

The EU is preparing tougher cloud procurement rules that would require digital sovereignty standards in sensitive sectors like banking, energy, and healthcare.

EU-made software and hardware could become a formal factor in public tenders, potentially putting Amazon, Microsoft, and Google at a disadvantage.

The move reflects concerns that the U.S. Cloud Act could allow American authorities to access data stored overseas.

The proposal is part of a broader tech package from Henna Virkkunen and still needs approval from EU member states and the European Parliament.
