First AI Model From Zuckerberg’s Wildly Expensive Superintelligence Lab Flops Compared to Virtually All Rivals

Meta unveiled Muse Spark, also called Avocado, its first model from the new Superintelligence Labs.

The company said the closed model still falls short of top systems from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, even as Meta’s stock rose on the news.

Questions also followed Meta’s use of distillation from other models, echoing past benchmark controversies around Llama.

Some benchmark results looked stronger, but Meta still appears behind the market leaders and may charge for access later.
