Massive cyberattack botnet powered by 17 million devices dismantled in Dutch raid

Dutch police and the National Cyber Security Centre dismantled a botnet linked to more than 17 million compromised devices.

About 200 servers hosted in the Netherlands were used for phishing, spam, and DDoS attacks before being seized or disabled.

Investigators say the network may be tied to a Russia-based residential proxy service, ASOCKS.

The case highlights how IoT devices and residential proxy infrastructure can be abused to hide cybercrime at scale.
