‘The game was in a Word document’: State of Decay 3’s 2020 announce trailer was just a concept, studio head says

The 2020 reveal trailer for State of Decay 3 was a concept; work on the game hadn’t started.

Philip Holt said the July 2020 Xbox Showcase trailer was made to announce the game’s arrival.

Blur produced a pre-rendered trailer that included experimental elements; the zombie deer shown won’t be in the game.

At that time the project existed only in a Word document and the team numbered four or five people.

Undead Labs announced alpha playtests would start in May with four-player co-op, new base building, and resource strategics; most of the team worked on State of Decay 2 while others created State of Decay 3 content — the community is survival and needs players’ help.
