New Pill Lowers Stubborn Blood Pressure and Protects the Kidneys

In a Phase 2 trial, baxdrostat lowered systolic blood pressure more than placebo in people with chronic kidney disease and uncontrolled hypertension.

The drug, added to standard therapy, also reduced urine albumin, a marker tied to kidney and cardiovascular risk.

Baxdrostat is an aldosterone synthase inhibitor being studied as a new option for resistant hypertension.

The results suggest it could help break the cycle in which kidney disease and high blood pressure worsen each other.
