China’s photonic engine uses white light to move information, can support 6G networks

Chinese researchers built a ceramic-based laser photonic engine that emits white light and transmits data over 1.2 kilometers.

The system could become a building block for future 6G and AI-enabled wireless networks by extending optical communication beyond typical VLC limits.

It offers a potentially lower-cost, compact alternative to current solutions, but it is still far slower than fiber optics.

Researchers said the technology needs better color quality and stronger weather resilience before practical deployment.
