Google Challenges Apple Intelligence With New Mac Gemini Upgrade

Google is upgrading its Gemini Mac app with a long-press Fn shortcut for systemwide voice dictation and screen-aware assistance.

The new macOS feature can reason over what’s on screen, use multi-file context, and insert outputs directly into open documents or emails.

Rollout starts July 29 in English worldwide, with more languages planned for 2026.

The update deepens Gemini’s challenge to Apple Intelligence on the Mac, while also underscoring Google’s cloud-based privacy tradeoff versus Apple’s on-device approach.
