Medicare’s GLP-1 Bridge Demo Offers Access, But Isn’t Straightforward

The Trump administration launched the Medicare Bridge demonstration for July 2026 through December 2027.

Eligible seniors and some disabled beneficiaries can get GLP-1 weight-loss drugs such as Wegovy, Zepbound, and orforglipron for a flat $50 monthly copay.

The program excludes people with type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea, or MASH, and it requires BMI thresholds.

Low-income subsidy enrollees do not get additional savings, and the coverage remains limited.

The move fits a broader push to lower GLP-1 prices, while the related BALANCE pilot has been paused due to weak Part D participation.
