Giant Squid Detected off Western Australia in Stunning Deep-Sea Discovery

Environmental DNA surveys in deep submarine canyons off Western Australia found traces of giant squid, rare whales and many other deep-sea animals.

The expedition also detected dozens of species not previously recorded in the region, pointing to a much richer ecosystem than scientists expected.

Researchers say the waters off the Ningaloo coast, including Cape Range and Cloates canyons, remain poorly understood but may hold major undocumented biodiversity.
