300,000 volts: US team puts world’s largest neutrino detector through extreme stress test

At CERN, researchers are stress-testing ProtoDUNE Vertical Drift, a full-scale prototype for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment.

The goal is to prove the liquid-argon detector can withstand about 300,000 volts and run reliably for decades.

This check is a key step before the detector is installed at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in South Dakota.
