iOS 26.5 adding encryption to RCS messages exchanged between Androids and iPhones

Apple has added encrypted RCS support to iPhone-to-Android chats in the iOS 26.5 release candidate.

When encryption is active, Messages will show a lock icon in supported cross-platform conversations.

The feature depends on carrier support and Android users running the latest Google Messages.

Apple has not announced a public release date yet.
