Tokyo lets AI play matchmaker, and hundreds of couples have already tied the knot

Tokyo launched the AI matchmaking app Tokyo Enmusubi in September 2024 to help address Japan’s falling marriage and birth rates.

Users must verify their identity and single status, and the app uses AI to suggest compatible matches.

By June 2026, the platform had 16,000 users, led to 760 serious relationships, and resulted in 265 marriages.

The program highlights a growing public-sector role for dating technology in response to Japan’s demographic decline.
