US firm receives contract to manufacture fully indigenous permanent magnets for defense use

The U.S. Defense Logistics Agency awarded Advanced Magnet Lab a $2 million, two-year contract to develop domestic NdFeB permanent magnets for defense use.

The work includes supply chain management, alloy optimization, and manufacturing with U.S. and allied rare earth inputs.

The goal is to qualify fully indigenous magnets for missiles, UAVs, aircraft, and other defense systems.

The contract is part of a broader push to reduce reliance on China’s dominant rare earth magnet supply.
