The idea draws on Clefairy’s early mascot history, Mimikyu’s Fairy typing, and the Clefairy-shaped Poké Doll seen in the games.

Fans also pointed to Mimikyu’s appearance in Pokémon Sun and Moon and its lore around disguising itself as Pikachu.
