AMD takes the wraps off its Instinct MI455X AI accelerator — CDNA 5 and Helios rack-scale architecture combine to take the fight to Nvidia in the data center

AMD unveiled the Instinct MI455X AI accelerator, built on CDNA 5, as its next major step in data center AI hardware.

The company also introduced Helios, a rack-scale platform that ties 72 GPUs together into a single coherent system.

AMD says the chip and rack design deliver major performance gains and are designed to compete more directly with Nvidia’s Blackwell and Rubin systems.

The launch is AMD’s strongest bid yet to challenge Nvidia not just at the chip level, but across full AI infrastructure.
