OpenAI reportedly thinks its phone will sell as many units as the Samsung Galaxy series

OpenAI is reportedly pushing ahead with an AI-first phone, according to a report citing analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The device could enter mass production in early 2027, with combined 2027-2028 shipments projected at around 30 million units.

It’s expected to use proprietary hardware and software, plus a customized MediaTek chip.

If accurate, the phone could become one of the first major AI-native smartphones and a serious premium-market rival.
