Anthropic tests Claude Operon for scientific research

Anthropic has been testing a new Claude desktop mode named Operon that targets biology and health research.

Operon provides a dedicated workspace with onboarding, project creation, Plan and Auto modes, and local file access.

Suggested tasks include phylogenetic tree building, CRISPR knockout design, single-cell RNA-seq analysis, and enzyme variant ranking.

The feature follows Anthropic’s AI for Science program and recent product launches including Claude for Life Sciences and HIPAA-ready Claude for Healthcare.

Anthropic is preparing new models called Mythos and Capybara, with Mythos described as larger than Opus.
