US Navy’s massive 9,100-ton nuclear-powered attack submarine nears return to fleet

USS Connecticut, the Navy’s Seawolf-class nuclear attack submarine, is nearing a return to active duty after a 2021 collision in the South China Sea.

The boat underwent major repairs at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and is now expected back in service by September.

Its return restores one of the Navy’s most capable attack submarines after a long and costly repair period.

The submarine is still scheduled to retire in 2031, underscoring broader plans for the future SSN(X) fleet.
