YouTube overhaul broadens search with 'Ask YouTube,' adds Gemini Omni to recreate someone else's Shorts

YouTube is testing a Gemini-powered “Ask YouTube” search for Premium users over 18 at Google I/O.

It is also adding Gemini Omni to Shorts Remix, enabling more advanced AI edits of existing videos.

Remixed clips will be clearly labeled, linked to the original, and can be disabled by creators.

The update broadens YouTube’s AI tools for discovery and creation, with new safeguards for reused content.
