New panels produce hydrogen fuel using only water, sunlight and no electricity

KIT spin-off Photreon unveiled a one-square-meter panel at Hannover Messe that produces hydrogen directly from sunlight and water.

The system uses photocatalysis to split water without electricity or electrolyzers, aiming for a simpler green hydrogen route.

If scaled successfully, it could cut costs and enable decentralized hydrogen production in places off the grid or far from hydrogen networks.
