This New Chip Could Make GPUs Far More Efficient

UC San Diego engineers built a prototype hybrid power-conversion chip for GPUs and data centers.

The design uses a piezoelectric resonator with capacitors to step high voltage down more efficiently than conventional DC-DC converters.

If it scales, the chip could reduce power losses, improve GPU efficiency, and shrink the electricity and space needed for computing systems.
