NASA says a meteor traveling at 75,000 mph was behind the massive sonic boom over Massachusetts

A roughly three-foot meteor entered the atmosphere at about 75,000 mph and exploded over the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border on May 30.

The breakup created a bright daytime fireball and a double sonic boom heard across parts of New England.

Police and state officials received many reports before NASA and NOAA confirmed the event was a natural meteor explosion.

No damage or injuries were reported, underscoring how even a small meteor can produce a powerful shockwave.
