Artemis II Astronauts Witnessed 6 Meteorites Colliding With the Moon

Artemis II astronauts aboard Orion observed up to six brief white-blue flashes while flying past the Moon’s far side.

NASA later identified the flashes as small meteorites striking the Moon’s dark side during a solar eclipse.

The sighting provides real-time evidence of lunar impacts and helps refine NASA’s impact-rate models.

It also improves assessments of micrometeorite hazards for future lunar missions and habitats.
