Battlefield robot trials in Ukraine highlight the current limits of the Phantom MK-1 humanoid

Foundation sent two Phantom MK-1 humanoid robots to Ukraine in February 2026 for trials in hazardous logistics missions.

Backed by Ukrainian and U.S. officials, the tests suggested humanoid robots could help with frontline support and other risky tasks.

But the robots’ current limits — including payload, waterproofing, and battery life — make them unsuitable for large-scale combat use.

Foundation says an upgraded Phantom 2 is planned for later in 2026.
