Six U.S. senators urge Apple not to use Chinese-made memory, citing SK hynix's U.S. factory

Six bipartisan U.S. senators, including Chuck Schumer, wrote to Apple CEO Tim Cook urging the company not to use Chinese memory chips from CXMT and YMTC.

They cited the firms’ designations as Chinese military companies, export-control restrictions, and limits on federal procurement.

The senators also criticized reports that Apple may seek permission to use Chinese-made memory in its products.

They warned that large-scale purchases of Chinese memory could undermine U.S. semiconductor investment, pointing to SK hynix’s advanced packaging plant in Indiana.

The move signals rising political pressure on Apple’s supply chain and on U.S. ties with Chinese chipmakers.
