Apple patches iOS bug that allowed the FBI to read Signal messages

Apple rolled out emergency iOS and iPadOS updates to fix a Notification Services flaw that could leave deleted notifications on iPhones and iPads.

The issue reportedly let Signal messages persist in notification storage even after the app was removed, and the FBI is said to have used that data.

It highlights a privacy risk at the OS level: deleted notifications may still be recoverable outside the app itself.

Apple addressed the bug in an out-of-band patch tracked as CVE-2026-28950.
