Focused Energy raises whopping $240M Series A for laser-powered fusion tech

Focused Energy raised a $240 million Series A, bringing total private funding to $300 million and grants to $200 million.

The Germany-based startup is developing a direct-drive inertial confinement fusion reactor powered by lasers.

Its first demo system, Lighthouse, is planned for a decommissioned plant site in Germany.

The round was led by RWE, with support from SPRIND, Prime Movers Lab, and the European Innovation Council Fund.
