GPT-5.5 Instant shows you what it remembered — just not all of it

OpenAI has made GPT-5.5 Instant the default ChatGPT model, replacing GPT-5.3 Instant.

ChatGPT also now shows memory-source citations for some personalized answers, so users can see certain files, memories, or past chats that influenced a response.

OpenAI says the citations are not a complete explanation of every factor behind an answer, so the view is only partial.

The change improves quality and transparency, but it may complicate enterprise RAG, audit, and security workflows because it creates another context trail to reconcile.

GPT-5.5 Instant also brings capability gains, including lower hallucination rates, but observability remains the bigger governance challenge.
