New generator turns thin air into power using everyday materials like salt and gelatin

Researchers built a biodegradable moisture-electric generator from gelatin, table salt, and activated carbon that converts ambient humidity into power.

Each unit produces about 1 volt for more than 30 days, and multiple units can be combined to reach 90 volts.

The device powered a 40-LED string and could sense breathing and speech, showing promise for battery-free wearables and sensors.

Because it safely biodegrades after use, it could help cut electronic waste and offer a low-cost option for humid environments.
