ChatGPT gets "advanced account security" to strengthen protection against account hijacking with passkeys and more

OpenAI introduced a new advanced security setting for ChatGPT accounts that requires passkeys or FIDO-compatible security keys.

Enrolling in the option logs users out, disables password-based sign-in, and tightens session controls and alerts.

The change is designed to reduce phishing and stolen-password risks by eliminating weaker login paths.

Email/SMS recovery is more limited, and account restoration now relies more on stronger verification and support checks.
