Alteron: A Tool for Behavioral Regression Testing Across NLP Classifier Versions

Researchers at the University of Dhaka introduced Alteron, an open-source tool for comparing successive NLP classifier versions.

Alteron uses metamorphically transformed test inputs to detect behavioral regressions across model updates.

In an evaluation across 10 metamorphic relations, 4 model versions, and 3 update transitions, it found 16 regressions.

Eleven of those were release-blocking, showing that stable benchmark scores can still hide important behavior changes.
