20 years ago, Rockstar Table Tennis laid the path for GTA 6

Rockstar Table Tennis was more than a side project: it was Rockstar’s first game built on the new RAGE engine.

Developed at Rockstar San Diego, it helped the studio test next-generation console hardware and its in-house tech.

The game emerged after RenderWare became tied up with Criterion and EA, pushing Rockstar toward its own engine.

That early technical foundation later supported the Grand Theft Auto series, including work that led toward GTA 6.
