Meta made tens of millions off scam ads that ripped off seniors

A watchdog report says Meta earned $14.3 million in 2025 from deceptive Medicare ads aimed at Facebook users 65 and older.

The ads reportedly used false benefits, celebrity deepfakes, and fake deadlines, and removed ads were quickly replaced to keep impressions high.

The Center for Countering Digital Hate says this raises concerns that major platforms profit from fraud while failing to protect vulnerable seniors.

Meta says it actively removes scam ads and continues to invest in tools to detect and stop fraud.
