Microsoft reboots computing with Solara OS built for agent-first device ecosystem

At Build 2026, Microsoft introduced Project Solara, an Android-based OS for dedicated AI hardware that puts intelligent agents ahead of traditional apps.

The company also showed two concept devices—a smart display and a wearable badge—to highlight uses like authentication, transcription, contextual analysis, and Microsoft 365 access.

Microsoft said it will not sell the devices itself, instead relying on hardware partners and early pilot customers such as Best Buy, CVS Health, and Target.

It also launched Scout, a persistent Microsoft 365 AI assistant built on OpenClaw and headed to the Frontier program.
