China’s 40,000-ton amphibious assault ship showcases battle power in live-fire tests

China has released footage of tests on the Type 076 amphibious assault ship Sichuan.

The ship’s trials included its first publicly shown countermeasure live-fire launch and a dead-load electromagnetic catapult test.

Sichuan has also completed multiple sea trials and is being prepared for operations with aircraft and unmanned systems.

The tests point to China’s push toward a new amphibious warship with carrier-like launch systems and expanded naval strike reach.
