For some reason, someone has built a five-meter guillotine in the most unexpected place: a remote Galician village

A five-meter metal guillotine has been installed as permanent public art in Trasanquelos, a small village in Oza-Cesuras, Galicia.

The sculpture, linked to artist Carlos Pazos and the Fundación Pazos Cuchillo, was made in a blacksmith shop in Lleida and bears the words “DRA” and “MATIZAR.”

Its blade is locked so it cannot function, turning a symbol of violence into a contemporary art piece.

The installation has drawn media and visitors while spotlighting a new exhibition on artist books at the foundation’s space.
