Google strengthens content provenance recording support in Search and Gemini; OpenAI also joins

Google is expanding content provenance and verification across Search, Gemini, Chrome, Pixel, and Google Cloud using C2PA and SynthID.

The company is broadening tools to verify images, video, and audio, with partners like Meta, Kakao, ElevenLabs, and NVIDIA also joining in.

OpenAI said it will add SynthID watermarking to images made in ChatGPT, Codex, and its API, and launched a preview tool to check image origin.

The push aims to make AI-generated or edited media easier to spot, improving trust, moderation, fraud detection, and fact-checking.
