US scientists’ new quantum lab targets next-generation computing breakthroughs

Massachusetts will provide up to $25 million in matching funds for MIT’s planned Quantum Systems Laboratory in Cambridge.

The shared facility is designed to advance quantum computing and sensing research, while attracting more federal and private investment.

State officials say the project could create construction and permanent jobs and strengthen Massachusetts’ position in a fast-growing tech sector.

MIT also plans to expand training and research partnerships, including with UMass Boston, to build a broader workforce pipeline.
