Severe Linux Copy Fail security flaw uncovered using AI scanning help

Theori researchers used their Xint Code AI tool to uncover “Copy Fail,” a Linux privilege-escalation flaw in the crypto subsystem.

Publicly disclosed as CVE-2026-31431, the bug affects many Linux distributions and may allow attackers to gain root access.

Some distros, including Arch Linux and Fedora, have already patched it, while others remained vulnerable at disclosure time.

The issue is especially concerning because it can bypass common integrity monitoring and expose systems broadly before fixes land.
